WG 2: History

The Development of Eu Studies in History

Almost 60 years after the Schuman Declaration and the first EU studies a mapping of European studies in History is extremely needed. After a description of the origins, with the analysis of the first, seminal studies, close attention should be paid to the developments, streams and most-studied topics along the years and the research methodologies employed. The question of languages is particularly important in historical studies as it grants access to primary sources. In particular, the research should highlight what have been the issues analysed in the different periods and if there were different developments in the national academic contexts. It is also important to focus on the main academic schools and to examine the links between the academic debate and the EU policy making. In addition, the research should examine whether cross fertilization exists or not among the different national schools and between the different disciplines. Also, where anti-integrationists school exist, the research should also investigate about their origins and their developments. Finally, a review of the most studied issues in Eu history today, of the main schools, of the most influential journals and books in EU history should be traced.
