WG 5: Economics
Economics always played a relevant role in EU studies and even more so since the complexion of the Single Market and the creation of the Economic and Monetary Union.
The review of economic studies within EU studies shall include essential aspects of the Economics of European integration like the customs union, the four freedoms of the single market, monetary integration, regional policy of the EU and structural funds, competition policy, common agriculture policy, transport policy, environmental economics. The new accent will be placed from theoretical and empirical point of view on the mechanism of the European integration after enlargement of the EU including 27 members states. Other aspects of interest will consider the benefits and costs of the adhesion of the new members to the European Single Market and possibilities for them the euro-zone.
Also, the research should highlight what have been the issues analysed in the different periods and if there were different developments in the national academic contexts. It is also important to focus on the main academic schools and to examine the links between the academic debate and the EU policy making. In addition, the research should examine whether cross fertilization exists or not among the different national schools and between the different disciplines. Also, where anti-integrationists theories exist, the research should also investigate about their origins and their developments. Finally, a review of the most studied issues in Eu studies today, of the main schools, of the most influential journals and books should be traced.
